| Sometimes it takes losing something before you realize how much it meant to you. Everyday we take the simplest things we experience for granted. Take yesterday's medium to heavy rain in Lincoln. Living in San Antonio, i haven't seen much rain in 3 months, i had forgotten how relaxing it can be. Along those same lines are the subtle nuances that the relatively small town of Lincoln, NE has to offer. Most people grow up hating their hometown, and Lincoln is no different. There is however, something special about this town that most people don't realize. The people here are a different breed than those in ohter parts of the country. Maybe its just because it is the midwest, but people in Lincoln are so friendly even to strangers. While I was back home, I realized that a polite smile and hello from someone you don't know is a small gesture with large rammifications. If people elsewhere could figure out how to put down their guard and welcome a person in passing, the world would be a better place. My trip home began with an excruciating difficult couple of flights. I narrowly made my plane in San Antonio International thanks to some very illegal driving by a fellow CSO student named Pat. After all of my rides to the airport bailed out on me, he came through for the win. Once i made it home i said hello my mom, sister, and ex-roomates. I showered as fast as humanly possible and tried to revive myself. My day had started at 4:45 AM and after a commander's call, followed by my first Flight in the T-43, and all the drama of getting home i was beat. Apparently i still have my priorities though, because i made it downtown for the last hour before the bars close. We came back to the house and partied with the neighbors next door. I got to meet some really cool people that i'm a bit sorry to say goodbye to, but like all good things its best in small doses i guess. More to come soon :) | | |
| Howdy Yall,
Im down hur in central southern
texas and boy i tell ya, it sure does seem to me that Texas is a bit
over rated.. Ok so i haven't made it out of the base much yet so
thats probably not fair. I've heard of some good clubs to
checkout and I think there will be a lot places to have fun at once i
can get a good crew together. Right now i've been hanging out
with Lori Brophy, and Phil Gurito. They were both from UNL rotc with
me. They are really busy though, because they started class ahead
of me so they dont have tons of time to hang.
Im still livin the billeting
because they can't get the dorm situation figured out. Hopefully
by tomorrow i'll know where im living (im hoping for an apartment off
base) I know 2 other guys in my navigator class already.
One is from field training/asbc and the other is from asbc. Both
are married though so no being crazy i guess. Today was just a
busy day of running to different locations on the base to complete this
checklist for inprocessing. fun. not. lol
I've seen a couple of familiar
faces down here: lori, phil, cormick wong from my asbc flight, sullivan
from asbc dragon squadron, rivera from field training/asbc. Im told
Earl Arnold (unl rotc) and robert lacy are both here as well.
Should make for an interesting reunion of sorts sometime.
Miss you guys back home alot
already. I liked the routine we had going... and hearing justin
swear off alcohol every sunday only to get retarded every wed-sat
lol. Come visit soon!
Love you family, stay safe and strong

| My orders are in...
So it's time to say goodbye to lincoln, again. Except its for good this time. Im headed on June 19 to Navigator training, aka Combat Systems Officer training, in San Antonio, TX. This is the true start of my AF career. Although i've already been TDY to Maxwell AFB, this 1 year + station in texas will be my first major test/training. The program is just under a year long. After that, there is follow-on training in the specific aircraft that i am chosen for. Just think, in 1.5 years i will be mission ready as a Combat Systems Officer i.e. bomber, electronic warfare officer, weapons system officer.
Im going to miss my friends in Lincoln. You guys were great and i know i'll always cherish the times we spent getting into trouble. I also will miss O st and its party atmosphere every thurs, fri, sat :)
Living with women = bad idea
I have to say goodbye to my roomates as well. They taught me alot in the few months that i lived with them. Mostly that living with women is a VERY BAD idea. The only thing that kept me sane in that house was Justin. Laura, this tall blonde headcase, is pretty much every man's (and women's) worst nightmare. She sleeps with someone else's boyfriend, rats on him, and continues to stir up trouble in somebody's life. Even on a civil level she is a drama story, making the biggest deal of moving her car from the driveway when she blocked others in (read avoid her at all costs)...
I love melissa my other female roomate. Although we've had some minor spats, shes usually level headed. She'll make a great wife someday, so gents here's the key to her heart: Confuse the heck out of her :) Mel if you read this you know what i mean!
Justin you've gotta come visit, you'll always have a place to stay and plenty of free booze. Dont get vagined up livin with the girls. WHATCHYOU KNOW ABOUT THATTTTTT
I was hoping to get to visit my friends in Estes Park, CO at the YMCA of the Rockies. The summer's here and i definitely feel like i should be playing dodgeball. I miss hiking and fly fishing the rockies... Im going to have to visit asap, so have your comp nights ready :)
Notable happenings:
-
I finished my civilian flying program. I have 25 flight hours in a Piper Cherokee 140. Its a low wing, single propeller airplane. I even got to fly over my parents house in Hickman, at low level :) My mom was so excited she got out on the roof!
-
My car is doing well, and i like the Goodyear Eagle F1's i put on it. I still haven't got to run it through a slalom or road course but i did get to top it out at 157 MPH somewhere near Sutton NE. ITs very fast, and strangely smooth...
-
Dover turned 21, i think he's still alive...
-
Still single, by necessity. Moving away means no long terms for me :(
| I dont know if you know this but i have the best job on the planet. I'll keep this short and sweet.
- I have a brand new car http://unl.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2022500&id=17207374
- I have the best job. Im currently in private pilot training. My job is to fly airplanes. Its the most fun i've had since being paid to play dodge ball!
- Im seeing old friends and meeting new ones daily
- I went to Vegas for a week and saw an ASBC friend (air force) and won 2000 bucks
- I blew 3000 on booze and one Really big gamble
- Loved every minute of it
I could continue but i dont want to sound like a jerk. For those of you who wonder what life is like in lil ole NE, its pretty damn sweet.
Call me up for a more current braggin session!
| Its so good to be back in Nebraska! I've left Alabama and its interesting showcase of people and problems for the heartland. In the last week i have:
1. Moved into a new house. I have SO MUCH CRAP its ridiculous. On a plus note, my new room is pimpin! You've gotta come check it out. We've got wood floors and a nice living room area. I picked up my stuff that was at the old house in the cove and my exroomates were very very sad to see it all go. They made good use of a good number of my things like coffee table, pirate flag, art work etc etc
2. Reunited with tons of people who i missed. I got to see/apologize in person to all those people who received some very random drunk dials in the last 2months...
3. Spent 200 bucks on new jeans because apparently theres a difference between nice jeans and cheap jeans. I however still fail to see much of a difference. 2 of my roomates work at the buckle and are fashion gurus. Hopefully they can help me get my wardrobe up to par.
Today we're having a family dinner that im excited for. There hasnt been alot of times we can get together so this should be good.
And i remember now, why i was missin Lincoln so much: CRAZY NIGHTS ON O ST. essentially every single night ive gone out has gotten crazier and crazier. I cant wait to see what happens tomorrow...
Until next time - Keep it reals
